This accounts for about 40-50% of your energy use. Make it a point to only heat or cool the rooms you’re using. Set your heating between 18°C and 20°C and your cooling between 25°C and 27°C because your energy use increases 5-10% with every degree you increase or decrease your temperature settings**.
Sealing Off for 25% Savings:
Draught-proofing your home’s gaps and cracks to stop (warm or cool) air leaking out is one of the most effective - and cheapest - ways to cut your power bill by as much as 25%.
Use a draught stopper under doors. Add weather seals to your windows, skirting boards, skylights and cornices.
Tread Lightly:
Lights use 8-15% of the average Aussie energy budget. It’s summer right now, and natural light is free. If you must switch on to work, try using reading lamps for a more efficient and targeted lighting solution - and of course, remember to switch off when you leave the room!
