Is your budget looking a little more ‘vending machine’ than usual this month?

If you feel like you’ve got less money for basics at the moment, you’re probably right.

Food bills are up around 7%, fuel costs rose a whopping 26% since January, and your power bill (that’s already gone up this year) is going up AGAIN - for both electricity and gas.

There’s nothing like a power bill shock to put a dent in your wallet.

Select your current energy provider.

Electricity prices rose by an average of 20% in 2022, and they’re set to go up by another 30% in 2023. Gas prices are also increasing by an average of 44% over the next 18 months.

You’re not powerless though.

Heating & Cooling Your Home:

This accounts for about 40-50% of your power use. Try to only heat or cool the rooms you’re using. Set your heating between 18°C and 20°C and your cooling between 25°C and 27°C. Your energy use increases 5-10% with every degree you increase or decrease your temperature settings**.

Sealing Off for 25% Savings:

Draught-proofing your home’s gaps and cracks to stop (warm or cool) air leaking out is one of the most effective - and cheapest - ways to cut your power bill by as much as 25%. Use a draught stopper under doors.

Tread Lightly:

Lights use up to 8-15% of the average Aussie energy budget. It’s summer right now, and natural light is free. If you must switch on to work, try using reading lamps for a more efficient and targeted lighting solution - and of course, remember to switch off when you leave the room!

These energy saving measures will help cut your power costs, but the quickest - and easiest - way to make the biggest difference to your energy costs is to make sure you're on the best plan you can find.
