The Best State For Renewables Is...
Australia is starting to pick up the pace when it comes to renewables. While we might not be flying high like the USA and China, we are at least seeing some positive changes – with big plans on the horizon.
🔍 Here’s what it means for you.
All eyes on 2030
Though we might have wasted a few years fighting the inevitable and trying to hang on to coal, it’s a welcome change that the current government is committed to boosting renewable energy.
In fact, its Powering Australia plan is all about creating more jobs, cutting power bills and boosting renewable energy.
📅 Australia is committed to reducing emissions by 43% by 2030 – and reaching net zero by 2050.
💵 $3 billion will be invested into ‘green’ metals among other things, with a roll-out of 85 solar banks and 400 community batteries installed across the country.
👷Renewables will be a booming industry in the near future, with the government investing in 10,000 new energy apprentices and a new energy skills program.
Running the race: The RACE for 2030 initiative is an industry-led cooperative made up of 73 partners and with $68.5 million in Commonwealth funding. The group is committed to renewables research that will drive innovation for a more secure, affordable and clean energy future.
Which state is smashing it?
In addition to federal government initiatives and rebates, our state and territory governments are also focused on renewables programs themselves. Here’s what some of them are doing well:
Queensland: The sunshine state is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else when it comes to wind farms. They recently announced the development of a new $2 billion wind project!
New South Wales: NSW is leading the way on solar panels, with plenty of generous incentives for households to jump on the renewables bandwagon. Up to 30,000 households have already slashed their energy bills through a rebate package.
Victoria: Our southern neighbours have big plans to hit renewables targets over the long term. The state will reach 2.6 gigawatts of renewable energy storage capacity by 2030, increasing to 6.3 gigawatts by 2035. The plan is to have 50% of the state’s electricity coming from renewable sources by 2030.
And the winner is…
New South Wales!
🔋Transmission and storage projects are growing rapidly right across the state.
💪 NSW is doing so well on renewables that they actually toppled Tasmania on the latest World Wildlife Fund renewable superpower scorecard.
🥇Take a bow, New South Wales – you’re helping to make the world a better place!
